Sally Adel is a doctoral student at University College Stockholm, financed by the Sankt Ignatios Foundation. She is born and raised in Egypt and her academic work concern the field of Christian-Muslim relations and has a particular interest in the conflicts between the two communities and how this conflict could can be seen in religious speech, apocalyptic texts and stories of saints.
Her master’s degree thesis, “In the Quest of a ‘Coptic’ Identity: A Historical Social Study of Intercommunal Relations in Medieval Egypt,” focused on the religious speech in medieval Egypt of both Christian and Muslim communities, and identified a variety of economic, social and symbolic factors which pushed the communities further apart. Her doctoral research focuses on the Revelation to John Apocalypse by the 13th century medieval scholar Ibn Katib Qaysar. Her research seeks to identify the Islamic influence on this commentary.
