This intensive language course covers the essentials of communicative competence in English at the A1 and A2 levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The course is designed to be integrated with other programs and courses offered at Sankt Ignatios and to enable students to develop and use their English in the context of studies, student life, wider civic engagement and professional life. Course materials, assignments, activities and methods are explicitly adapted to the needs of students within the context of folkbildning with its special focus on participatory and collaborative learning.
By the end of the course, participants will have developed their ability to:
- Assess, plan and actively guide their own language learning and development.
- Understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance such as very basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography, studies and employment.
- Communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters.
- Describe in simple terms aspects of their background, immediate environment and matters in areas of immediate need.
- Read very short, simple texts and find specific, predictable information in simple everyday written material.
- Write short, simple notes and messages relating to matters in areas of immediate needs including a very simple personal letter.
