Welcome to Allmän Kurs
Allmän Kurs at Sankt Ignatios offers education at primary and secondary level for adults who have not completed their compulsory schooling. A significant proportion of our student body is made up of immigrants to Sweden who are working to establish themselves in Swedish society.
Our program emphasises the importance of democracy, human rights, well-being and social interaction alongside core academic skills. We thus strive to empower participants to make their own judgements, effect positive change and acquire the general eligibility required for higher education or higher vocational education. In our view, proficiency in Swedish constitutes an essential prerequisite for full participation in Swedish society and the labour market. At the same time, we work to create an inclusive learning environment where students from diverse backgrounds can develop and discover new opportunities for their lives.

When you have completed your studies with us, you will be ready to either enter the workforce or continue your studies.
Many of our students already know what career they want to pursue before they arrive and what skills are required to apply for jobs in those areas. Several of our students go straight into the workforce through employment or by starting their own businesses.
Others use the education as a springboard into further study. Through the education we provide, students can progress to higher education, vocational colleges, or vocational training within municipal adult education that leads to jobs in, for example, childcare and restaurants. These courses are usually one or two years long.
For some students there is also the possibility to prepare for the Swedish Scholastic Aptitude Test, which can also lead to university admission. We offer study guidance specifically for this. Students pay the fee for the test themselves.
All our courses are tailored to lead to a profession. We support our students by creating study plans and writing job applications together with them. During your time with us, you will receive support from a mentor who will help you with career choice advice and understanding the job market.

How do you get accepted into Allmän Kurs?
- You apply for Allmän Kurs via a Google form, which you can find next to the course you wish to apply for.
- Once we have received your application, you will be invited for an interview and a test where we will assess which level of study is most suitable for you.
- If your application is successful, you will be offered a place within a few days.
What are the requirements for Allmän Kurs?
General eligibility requirements
You must be at least 18 years old, officially registered in Sweden, and have a good command of the language of instruction.
Entry requirements for Allmän Kurs
A course plan is created based on each applicant's educational level. However, as the courses are taught in Swedish, applicants whose first language is not Swedish must have studied Swedish to SFI level C or the equivalent to attend basic (compulsory-school) level.
Candidates are invited for an interview and will undertake a proficiency test to assess their suitability for the course.
To take Allmän Kurs at secondary school level you need to have completed Allmän Kurs ground level, or other education equivalent to Swedish compulsory school. You also need to have language skills equivalent to the requirements for studies at upper secondary school level.
Are there fees for Allmän Kurs?
Studies at Sankt Ignatios Folkhögskola are free of charge for Swedish citizens or individuals with a residence permit in Sweden. The school charges a service fee for studies on the General Course.
Participants pay a service fee which covers insurance, refreshments and certain materials that students use in connection with their studies.
For campus studies:
Full-time (100%): 1,200 SEK per term
Part-time (50%): 600 SEK per term per course
Where is the school?
All teaching on site takes place at our campus at Nygatan 2, 151 72 Södertälje.

What certificate do I receive upon completion of the course?
Those who complete our folkhögskola courses receive an educational certificate or course certificate, which shows that you have completed the education. Course certificates are issued after completed studies with approved attendance. You will receive information about the requirements for obtaining an educational certificate/course certificate for your course or program from your course coordinator.
For unapproved absence, you will receive a certificate which only confirms that you were enrolled on the course during the stated period.
What is a study assessment?
In Allmän Kurs, you do not receive grades but a study assessment, which is a summary evaluation of your ability to study. The study assessment is not given in individual subjects, but is made jointly by the teaching staff and is based on your entire period of study. The study assessment refers to the student's ability to benefit from further education, i.e. studies at the next higher level.
The overall assessment report includes an evaluation of the student's:
- skills and abilities and their development
- ability to analyse, process and provide an overview
- ambition, perseverance and ability to organise studies
- social skills.
The study evaluation is set on a seven-point scale:
- Excellent study ability (4)
- Very good – Excellent study skills (3.5)
- Very good study ability (3)
- Good - Very good study ability (2.5)
- Good study skills (2)
- Less Good – Good Study Ability (1.5)
- Reduced ability to study (1)
To receive a consolidated study assessment, you need to have at least 1 year of studies with approved attendance in Allmän Kurs.
