Our seminary is located in Tysslinge, near Södertälje. At the seminary we provide boarding to monks, candidates for the priesthood, and theology students. Many of our programs and courses are held here, partly or in full. Life at the seminary comprises more than study however. The rhythm of common prayer, meals, practical work and hospitality is an equally essential part of this unique pan-orthodox environment.
The seminary is headed by the first chairman of the College of Seminary Rectors. The college consists of representatives appointed by each respective Church; the Byzantine, Coptic, Syriac, and Tewahedo Churches. At the seminary, the coming together of the Orthodox Churches that have founded and sustain the Sankt Ignatios Foundation is made concrete and practical. Here we try to live by what is stated in the foundation’s mission statement:
Our [Churches] are not united, but we have mutually committed ourselves to working for unity, not through negotiation, but by deeply searching our roots for truth. We have discovered that the truth does not need to to be compromised in order to achieve unity, but that we must add love and respect to our pursuit for it to bear fruit. As Saint Ephraim says: “Truth and love are inseparable wings, truth without love can not fly”.
We hope that our seminary will be fertile ground from which new leadership may grow, equipped to lead not only our Churches but also society at large towards greater unity, free from oppression or discrimination of groups or individuals.
