This six-year program prepares students to serve as teachers and theologians in the Orthodox Church.

At Sankt Ignatios we see education as a process that empowers people and equips them to take responsibility for their own lives. In the Church this entails incorporating tradition into one’s life. As a bearer of tradition, the individual becomes a living witness to, and a source of the faith. Religious educators play a crucial role in this process. Their unique competence enables them to actualize the bishop's pedagogical duty, translating it into reality in parishes and the diocese. Religious educators highlight and reaffirm the importance of lay participation in the Church.

This program guides students into a deep intuitive understanding of the spirituality and theology of the Orthodox Church, and provides a solid foundation in Eastern Christian studies and religious education by combining academic studies at the university with spiritual formation at the seminary.

Well-rooted in their own tradition and that of other Orthodox churches, students are equipped to meet the challenges they will face as contemporary Church leaders in Sweden and Western Europe.

Content

The first two years are studied at the College, where university studies (50%) are combined with folk high school studies (75%). In this way academic studies are combined with the possibility for personal formation. This period is characterised by study, prayer, and fellowship, giving students the opportunity to grow as humans and as Christians, and to deepen their spiritual identities, while establishing a broad foundation of knowledge in Orthodox theology and tradition. The first year takes place at our seminary in Tysslinge. The second year takes place at our seminary in Viksberg.

The four remaining years consist of university studies at full-time (100%), combined with folk high school studies (25%). During these years the education takes place at Stockholm School of Theology's campus in Bromma, as well as at our seminary in Viksberg.

Degree

The program leads to a master's degree in theology with a focus on Eastern Christian studies, and a vocational qualification as religious educator (Paidagogos / Malphono / Malphonitho / Marigeta).

Service in the Church

This program, like the pastoral program, is a vocational education which requires an active relation to an Orthodox Church and its bishop.
